James Harold (Jim) Davis

Obituary Date: Saturday, July 31, 2021

James Harold (Jim) Davis age 88 passed away on July 31, 2021.  Jim was born July 28, 1933, in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Clinton E. Davis & Leila Mae Bishop Davis.  He was a 1950 graduate of Lyman Hall School.  In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at George Air Force Base in Victorville, California.  After his discharge as an Airman First Class in 1955, Jim worked at Lockheed Aerospace as an engine mechanic for the assembly of C130 Hercules Aircraft.  In 1958, he joined Allstate Insurance to begin his 41-year career as an Allstate Insurance Agent.  As Gainesville’s first Allstate Agent, Jim receiving multiple years distinction as an Honor Ring Member, exemplifying exceptional sales and customer service.

Jim had a passion for community service and was an active member of the Paul E. Bolding post of the American Legion, serving in several leadership roles including Post Commander.  He took great enjoyment in his service to the Gainesville Masonic Lodge 219 earning the 33 Degree affiliation.  Many weekends were spent participating in Lanier Shrine Club Parades and fundraising for Shriners Hospitals.

After his retirement in 1999, Jim & Cornella were avid travelers who spent over a decade exploring the United States and Canada in their motor coach.  In later years, he enjoyed watching the antics of his beloved cat “TC”.  Jim was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Clinton E. Davis & Leila Mae Davis.

Jim is survived by his wife of 68 years: Cornella Meadows Davis of Gainesville; Sons:  Jimmy Davis (Vicki), Vince Davis (Debbie) and Stacy Davis (Laura), all of Gainesville; Grandchildren:  Courtney Davis Braddick (Matt), Kyle Davis (Sarah), Taylor Davis, Travis Davis (Ashley) Connor Davis & Jackson Davis; Great Grandson:  James Michael Davis; Sister: Hilda Davis Clark; Brother-In-Law: Bradley Meadows (Bobbie)

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the American Cancer Society, The Northeast Georgia Medical Center Covid Relief Fund, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The family would like to thank the staff and physicians of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center for their excellent care given to Jim over the past year.
