James P. “Jim” Steele

James P. “Jim” Steele, 79, of Gainesville passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021 at his residence.

Born July 19, 1942 in Danbury, CT to the late Peter and Elizabeth Steele, he had lived in Forsyth County since 1983 having moved from Snellville.  Mr. Steele worked in sales and business development for Motorola and retired following over 30 years of service.  He was a member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.  Jim would remark that the three most important things in a man’s life is Family, Faith and Fishing.  He also enjoyed hunting, auto racing, and anything outdoors.  Also preceding him in death were his sister, Lillian Wrenn, and brothers, Peter Steele and Walter Steele.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Karen Steele, Gainesville; children, Janet and Clifford Webb, Dandridge, TN, Gregory James Steele, Gainesville; grandchildren, Abbagail and Samuel Simpson, Melissa Turner; sister and brother in law, Catherine and Alex Nicol, Florida; and a sister in law, Bernice Steele, Florida.

A memorial mass will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 11 o’clock at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church.  Fr. Brian Higgins will officiate.
