Nela Virginia "Jenny" Stowers

Obituary Date: Thursday, September 2, 2021

Nela Virginia “Jenny” Stowers, age 76 of Dahlonega, Ga passed away September 2, 2021 in the comfort of her home and surrounded by her family.

Jenny was born on November 2, 1943 to the late Herschel Allen and Nealer Thomas.

She went by many names including “Ginner”, “Jenny”, and “Mema”. No matter what you called her, to know her was a blessing. Mema was a prayer warrior and carried her family and friends through life on the prayers from her lips. Her greatest blessings in life were her “grands” and “great-grands” as she lovingly called us. Not a day went by that she didn't babysit, keep or visit with at least one of her babies. She has mentored and helped raise and mold 3 generations. Her love, wisdom and teachings have made us all who we are today.

Jenny retired after 30 years of work at the former North Georgia College and State University where she was the executive assistant for the president. After retirement, Don and Jenny spent the next season of their life in Steinhatchee, Florida. Fishing, scalloping and boating in the Gulf was their daily pastimes and one they shared with all of the family. Their time in Steinhatchee led to life long friends and cherished memories. After their time in Florida, they moved back to Georgia full time living in Dawsonville, then later in Cumming. On a sunny day you could find her by the pool enjoying the sun,  playing with her grandbabies or out to lunch with her sister and niece, any other time she was enjoying a good true crime show like “cold case files” or “unsolved mysteries” always solving the crime before the show was over. She was famous for her 9 layer chocolate cake and her 6 sticks of butter, pound cake. She enjoyed baking and gardening, always having the most beautifully manicured lawn in any house they lived in, and she could grow a Christmas cactus like nobody else. She was the most non-judgmental person you'd ever meet and she loved everyone, prayed for everyone and took care of everyone.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her siblings, Jean Roper, Marie Powers, Tillman Allen, Henrietta Grindle, and Inez Pittman.

Mrs. Stowers is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, Donald Stowers, daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Tim Holtzclaw, granddaughters, Jessy Holtzclaw, and Sara Mabe, sister, Rinda Dale, brother and sister-in-law, Coleman and Marie Allen, great-grandchildren, Jagger Tallant, Eyla Mabe and Jetson Fielder along with Justin Tallant, Casey Mabe and Mark Fieldler that she loved and claimed as grandsons as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 4, 2021, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Frankie Southerland will officiate.  Interment will follow at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Gainesville, GA.
