Shannon Marie Higgins, age 60, entered eternal life on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. Her spirit is carried on by her family, friends, and anyone who ever met her.
Life took on a greater perspective because of Shannon. Her ability to make you appreciate simple tasks, smile when you were overwhelmed, or give of yourself a little more were only shadowed by viewing her laughter while around her family and her intimate relationship with her friend, Jesus.
Hearing of anyone’s need, Shannon became their biggest prayer warrior. She always asked about those she prayed for and never stopped keeping them in her daily prayers. Her faith and values, instilled by her parents, were at her core.
Shannon’s days were filled with poetry writing, intently watching (and betting with her brothers) on the Atlanta Braves, family “Healing” Hours, and treats like Hamburger Thursdays. Always up for an adventure, Shannon – and her siblings – never let her restrictions stand in the way of a solo elevator ride, a chance to be “home plate” in a neighborhood baseball game, be taken – wheelchair and all – on the beach or enjoy a makeshift roller coaster ride down a hill in the neighborhood.
Outside of family, Shannon enjoyed those that loved her at home and at her “schools,” including her special friends, Cally Peterson, Jennifer Getter, Gifford Bowers, and Russell Barker.
She was loved and cared for unequivocally by her amazing mother, Mary Ellen Hense Higgins, Dawsonville, GA; her siblings, Tom Higgins (Elizabeth), Gainesville, GA; Erin Higgins Patton (John), Wilmington, DE; Mike Higgins (Judi), Jasper, GA; Sean Higgins (Julie), Rome, GA; Kelly Higgins Sickafoose (Mike), Atlanta, GA; Father Brian Higgins, Dawsonville, GA; Dan Higgins (Sharon), Atlanta, GA; and Tim Higgins (Paul Gilberto), Portland, OR.
Shannon was always everyone’s favorite aunt and is survived by 26 nieces and nephews and one great niece. Shannon is reunited with her father and buddy, Thomas Patrick Higgins, Jr.
Friends are welcome to visit with Shannon's family at the wake on Monday, September 20, from 5 until 7 PM at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 991 Kilough Church Road, Dawsonville, GA 30534. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Dawsonville on Tuesday, September 21, at 11 AM. In Shannon's memory, donations may be made to Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church Special Needs Apostolate Program, or the charity of your choice.
