Maureen Ann Barton Grace

Obituary Date: Friday, November 19, 2021

Maureen Ann Barton Grace passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on November 19, 2021 after bravely battling pancreatic cancer for over a year.

Maureen was born on March 5, 1949 in London, England to the late Joyce Powell Barton and Harold Barton. She was born into a military family.  Her parents served courageously in World War II and in later years ran local businesses in the United Kingdom.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband Alan Grace (parents to Martyn Grace & Russell Grace).

Maureen is survived by her husband Stewart Dickinson; her sons Martyn (Pam) Grace and Russell Grace; her grandchildren Amber, Ashley, Anna, James, & Clara; and her brothers Michael Barton, Raymond Barton, and Alan Barton.

A true Brit, you would never find Maureen far from a good “cup o’ tea.”  Maureen dearly loved her family and friends.  She had a heart of gold and was known for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and sense of humor.  She always kept busy.  She enjoyed knitting and was an avid reader.

Maureen met her first husband Alan when she became a bookbinding apprentice at Alan’s place of work.  They not only became beloved marriage partners in 1969 and then parents to Martyn & Russell; they also became business partners, establishing Grace Bindings in 1970.  They ran their internationally respected business for over 40 years and were well-known in their field as skilled bookbinders.  They restored many valuable and rare books including an original Shakespeare manuscript and some of the Queen’s personal rare book library.  Maureen also ran the operational side of the business.  Maureen and Alan enjoyed cooking together, travel, visiting family and friends, and their shared work.

After Alan passed in 2011, Maureen brought her mother, Joyce, back to England where she later met and fell in love with Stewart Dickinson.  Maureen and Stewart married in 2017.  They moved to Georgia where they enjoyed long walks with their two dogs, fixing up their home, visits from family, and laughing together over British comedy.

Maureen will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.  Her kind heart and warm, fun presence were a gift to all.  We love you Maureen, Mum, Maur, Mo, Momo, Nana Momo.

Maureen’s memorial service will be held online virtually on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, 2pm CST (U.S.).   More details will follow including the link to the service.
