Alice James Fitzgerald died January 2nd after a brief illness. She was the daughter of Emmett James and Hattie Faircloth James of Cairo, Ga.She was preceded in death by a brother, Varner, and her husband of sixty three years, Rodney D. Fitzgerald.
She is survived by a son Michael (Denise), daughter Cecelia (Bruce), grandchildren Christopher Cuello, Sarah Carter, Elijah Carter, Jessica Clark, and five adored great-grandchildren.
Alice was a lifelong educator, who retired after decades as a math teacher and elementary school principal. She loved traveling and always looked forward to her next trip. Alice was immensely proud of her grandchildren and took pleasure in her role of "Bubba" to them and her wonderful great-grandchildren.
She attended Cleveland First Baptist Church, and had been an active and supportive member since moving to White County in the 1970's.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, January 8, 2022 at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Turner will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Saturday prior to the service.
Graveside service will be held at Branchville United Methodist Church in Mitchell County on Wednesday January 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Cleveland First Baptist Church, Senior Adult Ministry, or to the cemetery fund at Branchville United Methodist Church c/o Gail Williams 3087 Greenwood Rd. Camilla, GA 31730.
