Frederick Keith Ward

Obituary Date: Wednesday, January 5, 2022

Frederick Keith Ward, 68, of Highlands, North Carolina, passed away January 5, 2022 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a trip with his family through Iceland.

Keith was born to Max and Margaret Ward on July 2, 1953 in Gainesville, Georgia where he was a respected member of the community for 67 years before retiring with his wife of 34 years, Susan to Highlands.

Keith graduated from Gainesville High School and went on to attend the University of Georgia where he earned a degree in business in 1976. Keith would go on to found Olympic Oil Company which he quietly grew over 40 years as president and owner and just as quietly gave back to the community he loved.

Ward, an accomplished golfer, played for the University of Georgia golf team and held several individual titles including the Gainesville City championship. Further, Keith was an excellent caddy and supporter of his son Ross; the two shared their most cherished father-son moments on the golf course. Travel was also an important part of Keith’s life, having adventured to all seven continents with his family even in illness.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Rotary Club, and a great supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Keith’s most meaningful accomplishment was his family– he was a dedicated, loving husband and father who will be remembered as a genuine friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Max and Margaret Ward.

Keith is survived by his wife, Susan Ward; his children, Ross and Maggie Ward of Charleston, South Carolina; his sister and brother-in-law, Carol Jane and Bill Lomax of Gainesville; his nephew, Will Lomax of Atlanta; as well as extended family.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022, in the Sanctuary of Gainesville First United Methodist Church following private family graveside service. The family will receive friends at the church after the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Keith’s name to the Ronnie Green Heart Center of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
