Richard "Dick" Alan Farrell

Richard “Dick” Alan Farrell, 74, beloved husband of 50 years to Fran (Jazab) Farrell, stepped into the presence of Jesus at 12:32 am, January 6, 2022, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He passed away peacefully at his home in Oakwood, GA.  

Richard was known by many names. First, he was a Christ Follower. He was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, son, brother, brother in-law, Uncle Dickie, Uncle Wigglestick, battle buddy, handyman, VP Dick Cheney look-alike, friend, but his greatest title was “PAPA”. He was born June 30, 1947, to the late Joseph Farrell and Barbara Farrell in New Orleans, Louisiana, but grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts. He served 10 years in the Army Reserves. He retired from IBM after a near 40-year career as a Project Manager. After retiring, he started VP Handyman in which he ran for 10 years. He was an active member of his Christ Place Church. He put others first and loved to serve in a variety of ways all the while being generous with his time, talents and treasures. His passions included his grandchildren, fishing, nature, birds, tools, Backpack love ministry, golfing with his son-in-law, and most important was his family. He loved all his family and found immense joy in blessing them always. He will be remembered for his compassionate servant’s heart, generosity, sense of humor, love for the Lord and by his wife, as the love of her life.  

He was proceeded in death by his father, Joseph Farrell; his mother, Barbara Woolfe Farrell; and his grandson, Christopher Carter Spears. Richard is survived by his wife Fran Farrell (Oakwood, GA); sister Ann Maskowski and her husband Dave (East Longmeadow, MA); brother David Farrell and his wife Kathi (Springfield, MA); daughter Jenna Farrell Spears and her husband Brent Spears (Braselton, GA); daughter Kara Farrell (Germantown, MD); granddaughter Avery Grayce Spears (Braselton, GA); grandson Christopher Parker Spears (Braselton, GA); nephews Chris Douglas (Dayton, Fl); Jon Farrell and his wife Maren (Lulow, MA); nieces Karen Daponde (East Longmeadow, MA); and Jesica Stoecker and husband Patrick Stoecker (Broad Brook, CT); and many great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that loved him dearly.  

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, Jan 12th (4-7p) and the memorial service will be held on Thursday, Jan 13th (10a) at Memorial Park South Funeral Home, graveside immediately following at Memorial Park South Cemetery.  Rev. Dave Chanell & Rev. Brent Spears will officiate. All are invited to attend a luncheon following the service in Christ Place Church, 3428 Atlanta Hwy, Flowery Branch, GA 30542.
