Mary Lou Satterfield Duff

Obituary Date: Sunday, February 27, 2022

Mrs. Mary Lou Satterfield Duff, age 90, of Dahlonega, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022.

Mary Lou was born on January 23, 1932, to the late Charlie H. and Isabelle Meers Satterfield. She lived most of her life in Dahlonega, where she loved, cared for, and raised her family. She is preceded in death by her late husband Loy (Little Bud) Duff, sons Buddy and Johnny Duff, and great-grandson Colby Davenport.

Mary Lou was an independent and hard-working woman who never met a stranger. After working 20 years at the Pine Tree, she served many of Dahlonega’s visitors by preparing her famous breakfast at the Worley Homestead. Her lifelong passion was quilting; she poured hundreds of hours into hand stitching quilts for many people near and far. She took pride in her quilts and gifted many families with her artistry. Mary Lou’s quilts were made with love, and she gifted many of them to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews so they could keep warm and be wrapped in her love. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and reading when she wasn’t working to provide for her family or quilting. She spent many summers with her family camping on Dockery Lake and Lake Winfield Scott, where she and her late husband taught each of their grandchildren how to fish.

Mary Lou had many friends; she gained many new friends at the Foothills Retirement Home, where she resided in the last months of her life. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff and residents of Foothills Retirement Home.
Survivors include her daughter Shirley (Hubert) Davenport, Dawsonville; grandchildren Bradley (Deanna) Duff, Tracy (Karen) Davenport, Charity Clark, Brandon (Brandi) Duff, Whitney (April) Duff; 12 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Wendell Satterfield, Robert (Joyce) Satterfield; sisters Sharla Fae Seabolt, Martha Dowdy, and Elizabeth Dowdle; many beloved nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:30 PM Friday, March 4, 2022, at Dahlonega Memorial Park. The Rev. Kris Butler will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
