John "David" Moore

Mr. John "David" Moore, age 79, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022. On October 3, 1942, he was born in Dahlonega to the late J.W. Moore and Marie Garrett Moore. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Judy Moore.

David was a proud Veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 239, Dahlonega. He was a machinist for 36 years at Lockheed-Martin in Marietta and took much pride in his trade. David's coworkers would often seek him looking for guidance and wisdom because, in their eyes, he had mastered the skills. However, his talent was not confined to tool & die. David was a "jack of all trades," to say the least. If he put his mind to something, chances were he could learn that skill also. David was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed enduro racing. He also raced dirt track for several years, contending in a 33 Chevrolet Sedan with his buddies. Although David got a thrill from these sports, nothing compared to the feeling he got during his favorite pastime- flying his J 3 Cub. When he wasn't riding, driving, or flying something, he could often be found cheering on his children and grandchildren at sporting events.

He is survived by his children, Donna (Scott) Chambers and Tina (Dewayne) Wood; sister Ethel McKeithan; grandchildren Morgan (Daniel) McCrary, Gunner (Annie) Wood, and Dylan Woody; great grandchildren Archer Wood, Tate McCrary, and Fisher Wood, all of Dahlonega; numerous friends and other relatives. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kris Butler officiating. Military honors will be held. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A private interment will take place at a later date in the Bethlehem-Jones Family Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his wife.
