Jennifer Lund Smith of Dahlonega passed away on her 62nd birthday, Wednesday, February 23, 2022. She is survived by her husband, Steve and son Charlie; her brothers, Tom and Stephen Lund and their spouses, Cecilia Lund and Pascale Lucier; nieces Danielle Lund, Dianne Lavoie and husband Garrett, and nephews Chris Lund, Henry Lund, and Endrias Lund.
Born in Worcester, Mass., Jen earned a BA in history at UMass and a PhD in history from UGA. She taught history for over 20 years at UNG, a job which she found very fulfilling. She was a dear friend to so many, a lover and protector of all animals except for copperheads, and was especially fond of basset hounds. Jen loved too many things to list and was a bright, funny, genuine, and smiling presence on this earth. She battled a rare illness with courage, positivity and determination and was a beautiful person, inside and out, all the way to the end.
A celebration of her life and interment of her ashes will be held in May for Jennifer’s family and friends. Please contact the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Sautee GA for details, as the date and time have not yet been determined.
In lieu of flowers, her family is asking that donations be made either to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (https://www.theaftd.org/), designated for the research fund, or to Basset Hound Rescue of Georgia (http://www.bhrg.org/)
