Jimmy Lee Berrong, age 77 of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away Friday, April 15, 2022 at Northside Hospital Forsyth after an extended illness.
Jimmy was born and raised in Hiawassee, Ga to the late John Lee and Cora Shirley Berrong. He graduated from Towns County High School in 1962. He then joined the Air Force after graduation and served for four years of active duty. He would later serve 10 years in the Air National Guard. After serving, he graduated from Young Harris College in 1968. He then attended The University of Georgia and graduated from the Terry School of Business in 1971 with a MBA. He earned a Masters in Education from North Georgia College in 1979 . Jimmy was an auditor for the State Audits Department of Georgia. He worked as the Comptroller at North Georgia College for 22 years. He also worked as county Manager for Lumpkin County. He served on the board of Directors of Legacy Link and was the chairman of the Lumpkin Co Airport Authority. He was an active member of The Lions Club and The Civitan Clubs of Dahlonega. He played the fiddle with the Strings and Things band for over 20 years. Jimmy was also active and served as MC of the Cooper Green Men's Prayer group of Dahlonega and is of Baptist faith.
Jimmy loved flying, working on airplanes and attending air shows with his airport buddies. He also loved riding motorcycles and rode all across the US several times, including a ride through the Canadian Rockies. Jimmy loved fishing, camping and being outdoors. He enjoyed making music, playing his fiddle and spending time with his friends.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his mother and father, John Lee and Cora Berrong and brother William Douglas Berrong.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Unata Berrong of Dahlonega, Ga; son Jimmy Lee Berrong, Jr. of Dahlonega, Ga; brothers and sister-in-laws Terry and Marie Swanson of Hiawassee, Ga and Larry and Brenda Swanson of Hiawassee, Ga; cousins Olivia and Don Folmar of Fortson, Ga, Loretta and Ralph Aldridge of Miller, Ga, Carol and Betty McKinney of Hiawassee, Ga and Keith and Brenda McKinney of Hiawassee, Ga. Numerous other relatives also survive.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating and military honors being presented. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home.
