Willis Douglas "Doug" Smallwood

Mr. Willis Douglas "Doug" Smallwood, age 61 of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022. He was born on May 31, 1960 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Frank Willis Smallwood and the late Frances Louise Smallwood. Doug was a lifelong resident of Dahlonega and worked in the poultry industry. 

Those who knew Doug were considered to be the luckiest of people. If you were one of those lucky people, then you could rest assured that you had a true friend. Doug never met a stranger and everyone that knew him loved him. When it came to ability, there was not many people in the world that could out smart or out do him. He was a jack of all trades, he was witty, and he could fix anything that was broken. He enjoyed being outside hunting and fishing. In the center of Doug's heart, was a special place for his grandchildren. They were his entire world and they will all miss him dearly.    

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by stepfather, L.D. Smallwood; brother, James "Boy" Smallwood; sister-in-law, Ann Smallwood; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James Redmon Sr. and Betty Redmon. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sandra Hayes Smallwood; children, Devon (Shelly) Ledford of Commerce, Tiffany (Derek) Long of Cleveland, Jessica (Ryan) Toms of Gainesville, Troy (Tonya) Hayes of Dahlonega, Trae (Brooke) Hayes of Dahlonega, Andrew Smallwood of Dahlonega and Jennifer Smallwood of Dahlonega; siblings, Janice (Joe) Stringer of Dahlonega, Nancy (Jason) Chambers of Dahlonega and Willis Smallwood of Ellijay; grandchildren, Dustin, Skylar, Xander, Logan, Grayson, Watson, Haley, Brent, Cashton, Wesley, Maci, Ella, Dray Douglas, Faye and Venadee; special brother-in-law, James Redmon Jr.; and special friends, Susan Blackwell and Darrell Hullett. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive.  

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 28, 2022 in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Hicks and the Rev. Mike Gaines officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 27, 2022 from 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM and Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 9:00 AM until the service hour.
