Maggie Ruth Williams Lowe

Obituary Date: Saturday, May 7, 2022

Mrs. Maggie Ruth Williams Lowe was born on May 14, 1931, to the late Clyde and Minnie Williams in Flowery Branch, GA. She
credited her parents with teaching her the value of hard work. Her father was a sharecropper and her mother an educator who homeschooled.
They grew up in a family devoted to God, family, church and community. Maggie Ruth joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age and grew to become a faithful, involved member. Over the years, she sang in the Mass Choir, served as chair of the Scholarship
Committee and enjoyed being a church mother. She represented her church in the Greater Northwestern BaptistAssociation of GA, Inc. through her membership in the Association’s Mass Choir. Her personal outreach ministry was making nursing home and hospital visits. She was delighted when she had the opportunity to invite someone to her church so they could draw closer to God. Maggie Ruth completed her high school education at Beulah Rucker Industrial School in Gainesville, GA, then attended Savannah State
College. She graduated from Paine College in Augusta, GA – Class of 1959. She began her teaching career at Fair Street Elementary
School where the principal hesitated to hire her because she was so soft-spoken. After educating young people for over three decades,
Maggie Ruth retired from White Sulphur Elementary School. Teaching was a great joy and she was always excited whenever she could share with former students. After retiring, Maggie Ruth volunteered with the Northeast GA Medical Center for twenty-one years in various departments. Her favorite times were spent in Mother-Baby where she took baby pictures and rocked the infants. She also served on the Hall County Library Board, volunteered with Sunshine Seniors and was a member of the Gainesville Senior Center. She was an officer with the Hall County Retired Educators. “Mag” – as many called her – and her sisters traveled all over the country with the Generation of Leaves National Family Reunion as long as they were physically able. Her hobbies were gardening, reading, keeping up with Flowery Branch news and spending time with her family, friends and church members in-person and on the phone. Maggie Ruth passed away peacefully at home on May 7, 2022, after a long journey managing Parkinson’s and dementia. She was
preceded in death by her husband Deacon Dock S. Lowe, Jr., her brother Rev. Calvin W. Williams and her sister Mrs. Eloise Stringer. She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Michelle Lowe Mintz of Gainesville, GA; son, Derrick (Nashetta) Lowe of Loganville, GA; three grandchildren, Paige “Peyton” Mintz of Cartersville, GA, Derrick Lowe II and Malcolm  Lowe both of Loganville,
GA; four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy (Gene) Dean of Augusta, GA, Mrs. Doris Evans of Gainesville, GA, Mrs. Geraldine Roberts of Savannah, GA and Mrs. Ernestine Williams of Clinton, SC and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who she held dear.
