Nancy Louise Gilmer Yopp

Obituary Date: Sunday, May 15, 2022

On May 15, 2022 at 3:19 in the afternoon, Nancy Louise Gilmer Yopp entered into Heaven.

She was one of the kindest and warmest hearted women who ever walked this earth. She stayed hidden from the spot lights in life but, her presence was always felt. Nancy spent the majority of her adult life serving as a pastor’s wife. She was the picture of a servant’s heart. She was a Godly wife and mother. She raised he children to love God and put him first in their lives. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and wished the same for each of them.

It is said that we write our own obituary. Nothing could be truer of our mother. She was loving, kind, patient and faithful. She lived her whole life being true to those attributes. Her smile could light up a room. The world will be less bright in her absence.

Born on January 22, 1939 in New Holland, Mrs. Yopp was the daughter of the late Harold and Sarah Buffington Gilmer. Mrs. Yopp was retired from Westside Baptist Church. She was a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church in New Holland.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Yopp was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. J.L. Yopp and brother, James Edwin Gilmer; and grandchildren, Ian Buffington and Leah Buffington.

Mrs. Yopp is survived by her daughters, Susan Sailers (Harry) of Gainesville, Gina Buffington of Gainesville; son and daughter in law, James L. Yopp, III (Sheri) of Gainesville; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother and sister in law, Dr. Thomas L. Gilmer (Linda) of São Paulo, Brazil; sister in law, Jan Gilmer of Gainesville and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2022 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Lance Fuller and Dr. Stephen Bennett, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
