Deacon Paul Edward Krarup

Obituary Date: Monday, May 16, 2022
Deacon Paul Edward Krarup, age 71, of Flowery Branch passed away Monday, May 16, 2022 at his residence, surrounded by his family.

A Funeral Mass will held 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2022 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with inurnment following at Memorial Park South Cemetery.  Father Eric Hill will officiate.  The family will receive friends 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the church.

Deacon Paul was born April 5, 1951 to the late Walter Joseph and Marian Pahan Krarup in San Diego, California and retired from Fiserv, where he was a Software Engineer.  A Deacon at Prince of Peace Catholic Church since February 2, 2013, he not only served his church but the entire community in many aspects:  RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) ministry, St. Vincent de Paul (serving as their spiritual advisor until now), Ultreya meetings (where he encouraged the Cursillo movement and participated in faith journey sharing), and was also a chaplain for 12 of years at Northeast Georgia Hospital, another ministry where he brought solace and communion to so many.

A thoughtful preacher, he was known for his intelligence, dry wit, love for the meticulous and detail of all things to the end.  Many knew of Paul’s great love for the arts, music (he played the guitar), theatre, fondness of Broadway and art museums, woodworking, photography and nature.  When he needed his space, he might go off on a lengthy bike ride or simply sit quietly on his back porch awaiting the reliable evening visits of God’s peaceful creatures, white-tailed deer.  Faith and family took precedent over all things for him and he lived a life of generosity, humility, quality and sacrifice.

Deacon Paul is survived by his son, David Krarup of Ashville, North Carolina; sister & brother-in-law, Susan & Doug MacRae of Temecula, California; sisters-in-law, Robin Rose Dudek of San Diego, California, Monica Starnes of Maricopa, Arizona and Lori Rose of Chattanooga, Tennessee; nephew, Andrew MacRae; and niece, Kimberly Szwast.. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melinda (Lin) Rose Krarup in July 2013.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society or Stephen Ministry, c.o., Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 6439 Spout Springs Road, Flowery Branch, Georgia 30542.
