Rev. Griffeth Talmadge “Griff” Carithers

Rev. Griffeth Talmadge “Griff” Carithers, age 81, of Athens, GA died Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospice House.  Rev. Carithers was born in Nicholson to the late B.T. and Sallie Mae Wood Carithers.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Commerce and a retired minister. 

Rev. Carithers is survived by his wife, Alice Virginia Fitzpatrick Carithers of Athens; sons, Jeff Carithers of Nicholson and Mike Carithers of Commerce; daughter, Melissa Brock of Nicholson; sisters, Sue Ellen Summerville of Sandy Springs, MS and Barbara Mace of Athens; ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 4 PM, Friday, July 1 at the First Baptist Church of Commerce with Dr. Carlton Allen officiating.  Interment will follow in Howington Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church Friday from 3 to 4 PM.
