Madge Woody Steiner

Obituary Date: Wednesday, July 13, 2022

Madge Valeria Woody Fuller Steiner, 93, of Gainesville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022.   Interment will be at 1:30 pm Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Memorial Park Cemetery Gainesville, Ga., followed at 2:30 pm by a memorial service at Lanier Village Estates with the Rev. J.P. Morris  officiating. 

Madge was born on Friday, January 4, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia to Rev. William Esco and Mary Lou Ivie Woody, who preceded her in death.  Her sister, Mary Amelia Woody McCullough also preceded her in death, as did her two husbands, James R. Fuller and John Wesley Steiner.

Madge attended Girls’ High in Atlanta and went on to the Georgia Baptist School of Nursing where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse.  She later completed her Bachelor’s degree and touched many lives through her work as a nurse and a medical office manager. 

Throughout her life Madge enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation:  traveling to beautiful places around the world, gardening and flower arranging, and being an avid birdwatcher.  She worshipped remotely with the First Baptist Church of Powder Springs, actively participated in the Lanier Village Spiritual Life Committee and Altar Guild for many years, and was a trained Stephen Minister. 

Madge is survived by Abby Steiner Bailey of Dawsonville, Ga, whom she treasured as a daughter; grandsons Wesley Duncan  of Cumming, Ga., Trexell Bailey (Marissa) of Lithia Springs, Ga., and Rome Bailey of Cumming,Ga.; granddaughter Morgan Kaufman (Will) of Davidson,N.C.; brother-in-law Tom McCullough of Hiram, Ga.; nieces Ellen Luse of Tennessee, Ivie Shirlen (David) of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Lynn Ellis (Bill) of Cedartown, Ga.; nephews Steve Negri (Vee) and Paul Negri (Evelyn) of Summerville, S.C.,  Bill McCullough (Melissa) of Dallas,Ga.; and special cousin Jo Ann Payne (Greg) of Dawsonville, Ga. She is also survived by great grandchildren Kaylie Caldwell, Skylar Dutton,  and Gabriel Kaufman; great nieces Lynn Roldan, Marlena Compton, Christie Negri, Kim Casey, Suzanne Ellis and Colleen McCullough; and great nephews Tim Casey, Stan Ellis and Andy McCullough.  Throughout the years,  Madge remained close to many friends and extended family members.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the ALF/Lanier Village Spiritual Life Fund.
