Martha Lily Adair Daley

Obituary Date: Wednesday, August 3, 2022
Martha Lily Adair Daley of Clarkesville, Georgia passed away peacefully at home on August 3, 2022.

Martha was born on May 7, 1929 in Toccoa, Georgia to William and Katherine Adair. She graduated from Clarkesville High School in 1946, and then completed the secretarial course at Toccoa Falls College. She married Richard Daley on December 16, 1950, and they remained together until his death in 2015.

Martha was a devoted wife and mother to five children: Carmen, Timothy, Vivian, Cindy, and Jonathan. She was a skilled cook, gardener and seamstress, and a funny storyteller who enjoyed a good joke. Faith was also central to her life — she was a committed churchgoer and Sunday School teacher for most of her adult life. As the wife of a Baptist Minister, she went where her husband was called to preach. The family lived in Punta Gorda, Florida and Louisville, Kentucky, as well as Rome, Dilliard and Gainesville in Georgia, before settling in Clarkesville.

Martha enjoyed reading, nature walks, and taking care of her large garden. She loved spending time with family, especially during celebrations like Christmas. She was the keeper of family history and of her grandchildren’s favorite recipes. She was loved by her family and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her daughters Carmen Lee, Vivian Eiland and Cindy Bunten, her son Jonathan Daley, her grandchildren Flora, Amanda, Meredith, Nicole, Melissa, Chad, and Kylie, and nine great-grandchildren.

A service for friends and family will be held on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 10:30 am at Hollywood Baptist Church, 208 Hollywood Church Road in Clarkesville.
