Melvin A. Long

Melvin A. Long, 75 of Gainesville, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior August 24, 2022.  Melvin was born April 23, 1947, in Dahlonega, GA., to the late Leonard and Lila Mae Mason Long.

He was a longtime resident of Gainesville and a devoted and active member of Calvary Baptist Church; he was a veteran of the United States Navy and later spent a long and rewarding career in law enforcement, serving God and his community the best way he knew.

In addition to his parents Mr. Long is preceded in death by sisters Rebecca White and Regina Pixley.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Betty Tanner Long, his loving adult children, Sharon, Andy and Sheila Long, his devoted grandsons, Cody, Hunter and Justin Long, as well as numerous in-laws, nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends on Friday August 26, from 6-8 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home.  Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 27, at Calvary Baptist Church, Gainesville, Rev. Raymond Latty officiating with interment to follow in the Church Cemetery.
