Mr. Owen Peck, age 94, of Dahlonega, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2022.
Mr. Peck was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was born on May 14, 1928 to the late Charles Owen and Estelle Bryant Peck. In addition to his parents, Mr. Peck was preceded in death by his sister Ruth (Tom) Kidd; grandson Jake Peck; and nephew Donald Kidd. He served honorably in The United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. After the Army he taught agriculture and history for several years and ran the Lumpkin County Cannery.
Mr. Peck loved the land and farming. He raised cattle, hogs, and chickens for more than 70 years and drove a school bus for Lumpkin County for many years. He also loved the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. Mr. Peck’s greatest love was his Lord and his family. He read his Bible faithfully and was the adult Sunday School teacher at Mt. Olive Baptist Church for more than 60 years, where he also served as a Deacon for 52 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 ½ years, Mary Peck; children Rhonda (Jeff) Palmer; Janice (John) Phillips, and Jerry (Amy) Peck, all of Dahlonega; grandchildren Adam (Betsy) Palmer of Dawsonville, Malissa (Caleb) Osborne, Brandon Phillips, Maggie (Wesley) Sisk, Jordan Phillips, Luke Peck, and Carson Peck, all of Dahlonega; great grandchildren Mary Osborne, Sam Osborne, Theo Osborne, Hadley Palmer, Aliyah Sisk, and one on the way Piper Jane Palmer. Nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, September 23, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Lance Fuller and the Rev. Ricky Stone officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 22, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
