Rev. Roger Lester Dunagan

Obituary Date: Friday, September 23, 2022
Rev. Roger Lester Dunagan, age 81, passed away peacefully Friday, September 23, 2022.

Roger was born in Gainesville, Georgia, on March 3, 1941, to LC and Floyce Vickers Dunagan. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Gregory Dunagan; and first wife Patricia Dunagan.

He is survived by his wife Judy Dunagan; son Troy Dunagan; granddaughters Clarissa Dunagan and Maggie Reece Dunagan; sisters Ann Edwards, Darline (Carlton) Scruggs, Deborah Dunagan; aunt Lillian Vickers Boyd; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law John and Jimmie Sue Gerrells, Ronnie (Eloise) London, Stanley (Jennifer) London, and Roger (Kathy) London; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Roger was employed by Hiawassee Land Company for over 20 years. He raised chickens for a number of years and delivered metal for B&M Metals. He also was a volunteer fireman in the community. The first job Roger had was working as a delivery boy delivering newspapers on a bicycle. He loved farming, his horses, and border collies. In 1967, Roger rode on the wagon train to Six Flags when they opened the Dahlonega Mine Train. He raised border collies, participated in dog trials, and had cows, sheep, goats, horses, and dogs. He always said God let him live his dream of being on a farm. Roger pastored Town Creek and Concord Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School and Bible Study for many years at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, where he was a member. He loved studying God’s word and shared it with so many. Roger was truly a cowboy at heart and loved life to the fullest. He loved Roy Rogers and all the cowboys. Most of all, Roger loved God, his family, and his animals; in that order. We will remember his humor, laughter, and jokes forever. His greatest desire was for everyone to come to know the LORD.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, September 26, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Robinson, the Rev. Les Fuller, and the Rev. Stephen Gerrells officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 25, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The family request that all local ministers serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roger’s memory to The Gideons International, Lumpkin County Camp U10102, P.O. Box 653, Dahlonega, GA 30533.
