Debra Anne "Debbie" Jones

Debra Anne “Debbie” Jones, 61 of Buford, Ga. died Thursday October 20, 2022, at her residence.

Born in Rome, Georgia, Debbie had lived in Buford for a number of years.  She was the daughter of the late David Houston Gowens,Sr. and Mary Ann Shelnutt Matthews. She was a graduate of Berry Academy, had worked for the Floyd County Government as sheriff’s deputy and Juvenile Court Clerk and Forum event manager.  Debbie was retired from the City of Gainesville with 20 years of service, 18 years of which were served as Chief City Marshal and finance clerk.  She was President of GABTO and was a member of 12 Stone Church.

Debbie loved cooking, camping and being with friends and family.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Michael S. Jones, son and daughter-in-law, Michael D. and Haley Jones, grandchildren, Michael L. Jones and Amelia L. Jones, son, Daniel S. Jones, brother and sister-in-law, David H. and Jill Gowens, nephews, Dalton Gowens and his wife, Greyci Gowens, Branson Gowens and Brody Gowens, mother, Mary Anne Matthews, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Doug and Carolyn Jones and nephews, Brett and Blake.

Debbie is preceded in death by her father, David H. Gowens, Sr., stepfather, Shelton Matthews, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Annie Jones and David Earl Jones, paternal grandparents, George and Virginia Shelnutt, maternal grandmother, Pearl Gowens.

Funeral services will be held Saturday October 22, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home.  Interment to follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday October 21 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
