Peggy Anne Enloe Walters

Obituary Date: Sunday, November 27, 2022

Peggy died peacefully in her beloved home in Gainesville, on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at the age of 81.

Peggy Anne Enloe Walters was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on March 31, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Glen and Frances Enloe of Charlotte.

Peggy grew up as the eldest of three sisters and she married her high school sweetheart, the late James A. Walters in 1960. Peggy and Jim established roots in Gainesville in 1971 where they raised their two beautiful daughters, Jackie and Kelly, and together built a legacy of generosity.

Known in the community as Ms. Peg, she was a philanthropist and community servant in her own right. She served as chairman of the Ladies' auxiliary at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, was among the founders of the NGHS Auxilary Marketplace, and was head of the fundraising campaign which allowed for the construction of the beautiful Smithgall Woods Botanical Gardens. An accomplished artist herself, she was a lover of fine arts, adorning her home in curated paintings, and was a benefactor for the Quinlan Art Center here in Gainesville.

Of all her titles, Grandmother was the one she wore most proudly. Spend any time with her, and undoubtedly you would hear her gloating about her five granddaughters and three great-grandchildren for whom she was immensely proud. Her greatest happiness was rooted in the successes and happiness she shared with them, and she was sure to be present for every milestone. They include Taylor Hein Kizziah and her husband Adam, Jacqueline Ashley Hein, Anna Claire Dover, Laura Anne “Peaches” Shipley, Georgia Walters Shipley, Walters James Kizziah, Maisie Isabelle Kizziah, and Bertie Claire Kizziah.

She is survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law Jackie and Todd Slaughter, Kelly and Rob Robinson, sisters Kathy McDanel and Linda Jackson, and her beloved companion and caretaker, Vida Soji.

The family is inviting friends of the Walters Family to celebrate Peggy’s life on Thursday, December 1st from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the Chattahoochee Grill, 301 Tommy Aaron Drive, Gainesville, Ga 30506. There will be a private family graveside service at Alta Vista Cemetery, the following day.
