Carolyn McElwain Wilkins

Mrs. Carolyn McElwain Wilkins, age 79, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022. Carolyn passed away with grace and humility after complications following a courageous battle with cancer.

Carolyn was born April 6, 1943 in Falkner, Mississippi, to the late V.L. McElwain and Claudia Mae (Skinner) McElwain. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Representative Joe Mitch McElwain.

She was a graduate of Ripley High School in Mississippi and graduated from the University of Mississippi, and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority.  She later earned her Masters’ Degree and Specialist Degrees in education. She taught the majority of her 30 year career at Lanier Elementary School in Gainesville, Georgia.

Carolyn was married for 55 years to the love of her life, James “Jimmy” M. Wilkins, Jr. of Gainesville; she is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nikki and (Griff) Law; son and daughter-in-law, Jimbo and (Denise) Wilkins; grandchildren, Van Law, Amelia Law, Millie Wilkins, Alice Wilkins, and James Wilkins.

Carolyn was an avid gardener and loved to share her bounty with others, and she was an amazing cook. She was selfless and always doing things for others. She loved her family dearly.
