Gary Brooks McCoy

Obituary Date: Saturday, February 4, 2023

 

Mr. Gary Brooks McCoy, 74, of Alto, passed away Saturday February 4, 2023 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Level Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Brian James officiating.  The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 5:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m.

Born on September 4, 1948 in Toccoa, GA, he was the son of the late William (Bill) and Kathleen Varner McCoy. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church.

Gary was a graduate of South Habersham High School, class of 1966.  He spent his life working as a mechanic and metal fabricator.  He loved the sport of racing and was well-known for his contributions to local racing circuits. He was a member and past Master of Cornelia Lodge No. 92 F. & A.M., a Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner, and a member of Yaarab Shrine Temple, Atlanta, GA. Gary loved his family, his dog JereLee, and being “Big Daddy” to his three grandchildren.

Mr. McCoy is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shelia McCoy of Alto; daughter and son-in-law Lindsay and Caleb Herrin of Lula; sisters and brothers in law, Regina and Keith Armour of Cornelia, Peggy and Benny Overby of Gainesville; grandchildren Cade, Emme, and Brooks and a number of nieces and nephews.
