Gordon Adam Sutton, age 87 of Clarkesville, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 09, 2023.
Born in Richwoods, West Virginia on March 03, 1936, he was one of 14 children of the late William Jennings Sutton & Delphia Eagle Sutton. Gordon served his country proudly in the United States Air Force. He married his sweetheart, Mary Franklin Sutton on March 02, 1955 and together they made their home, raising their family in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Gordon worked for many years for General Electric Corporation before retiring in 1996. Following retirement, Gordon & Mary moved to the Stonepile Community of Clarkesville, Georgia where they have lived for the last 23 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors, camping, and mostly spending time on Lake Hartwell. Gordon was a member of Stonepile Baptist Church and the Lawrenceville V.F.W. Post #5255.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Dennis Adam Sutton; one brother, three sisters, and son-in-law, David Burnett.
Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Franklin Sutton of Clarkesville, GA; sons & daughter-in-law, Anthony D. Sutton, William D. & Jessie Sutton all of Carnesville, GA; daughter, Delphia Gay Sutton Burnett of Helen, GA; grandchildren, Chris & Jamie Sutton, Tim Sutton & Ellie Littau, Melissa Mulkey, April & Nate Lefebvre, Amanda Sutton, Phillip & Mandy Sutton; great-grandchildren, Angel & John, Taylor, Jackson, Hunter, Nicole, Madison, Christopher, Blake, Cowan, Aubrey, Deanna, Brady, Trey, & Justice; 5 brothers, 4 sisters, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, & friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at the Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville with Rev. Connie Berry officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Oakland Community Cemetery, 2047 Old Norcross Road, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30044.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 and again on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour.
