Billy L. “Barlow” Bennett

Billy L. “Barlow” Bennett age 83 of Buford, GA died Saturday, April 15, 2023.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Rev. Jerry Bennett will officiate. Interment will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 18, 2023, from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Flowers are accepted or donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Barlow’s request was for everybody to come casual, as you are to the service.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Maddox Bennett. Son, Donnie Bennett. Parents, Montie Dollar Bennett and Burl Bennett. Brothers-in-law, Ray Maddox, Stanley Pugh and Carey Maddox. Billy is survived by his daughter, Debbie Pugh (Kent), Buford. Son, Danny Bennett, Buford. Grandchildren, Brandy Brownlee (Shane), Kyle Pugh (Amanda), Jeremy Bennett (Nicole), Jacob Bennett (Jessica). Great Grandchildren, Walker Bennett, Sutton Bennett, Weslynn Bennett, Brynlee Bennett, Brooks Bennett, Tanner Brownlee, Ryleigh Brownlee, Hoyt Pugh, and Karter Pugh. Aunt, Katherine Dollar. Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cheryle Maddox, Sandra Wilson (Harry), Nancy Pugh, Nell Maddox, Ted Maddox (Janice), Mickey Maddox (Karen), Bo Maddox (Becky). Special Friends, Richard Jones (Vanessa), Steve Anglin (Patricia), and Herman Whidby.

Billy was a native and lifelong resident of Buford. He was a graduate of the last class of Sugar Hill High School in 1958. He worked for many years for Write-Write/Union Camp Paper Company until the company closed. He was employed and retired from the State of Georgia Department of Corrections at Phillips Prison and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. He enjoyed working with horses. Especially Tennessee Walking Horses and was a farrier for several years.  He coached and umpired for the Greater Buford Athletic Association for many years. Billy was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, Buford. He was lighthearted and fun-loving. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
