Nancy J. Griffin

Obituary Date: Monday, April 17, 2023

Nancy J. Griffin passed away peacefully on April 17th with her beloved husband, Michael Griffin, by her side and surrounded by her loving family.

Forever treasured by her devoted husband of 70 years, the Griffins married on September 20, 1952. Twenty one years before, Nancy Jane DeAngelo was born on Nov. 9, 1931 in Latrobe, PA to the late Nicholas and Jenny Sarp DeAngelo. She was raised in Pittsburgh where she attended Taylor Alderdice High School in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill.  Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings Christine, Eugene and Mary Elizabeth.  She is survived by her nieces Elizabeth and Maria and nephew Sean along many nieces and nephews on the Griffin side of the family.

Nancy was a devoted mother to her three children including daughter, Laura Griffin Kasperzak (Joel) of Alpharetta and her son, Richard Griffin (Kim) of Gainesville. She will be reunited in heaven with her oldest son, Michael F. Griffin, II, who passed away in December 2019.  Together, they will continue to cheer on their hometown favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Nancy and Michael raised their children in South Park, PA where Nancy was a dedicated volunteer for the Catholic Church and many of her children’s schools. The Griffins moved to the Florida Panhandle after retirement where they enjoyed many years making memories with new friends and family visits from the grandkids.  They later moved to Georgia to be close to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Sharing a lifetime of adventures with her close-knit family, she adored her 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren as well as a plethora of friends.  Mike and Nancy loved to travel and made the most of their 70 years together. What a force Nancy was, she lit up any room with her laughter and never met a stranger. Nancy and Mike were always the life of the party.

Continuing to tell many loving stories about their time with “Granny,” her grandchildren will always cherish their time together. They include: Jennifer Kidder (Todd); Maggie Griffin; Michael F. Griffin III (Jennifer); Keelin Kasperzak; Katie Griffin; Matthew Kasperzak; Erin Schroeder (Todd); Sarah Brady (Matthew); Clare Kasperzak; Richard Griffin (Jayda); Brock Griffin; Dylan Griffin; Ella Grace Griffin; and Matthew Griffin.

Expressing the same devotion to their family matriarch, the Griffin’s great grandchildren include Griffin Kasperzak; Straton Kidder; Delia Griffin; Stella Kidder; Saban Kidder; Max Griffin; Lavender Griffin; Sydni Kidder; Scarlett Kidder (Deceased Nov. 2016); Nico Griffin; Nora Griffin; Emerson Schroeder; and Oliver Griffin.

Funeral mass will be at 11am on Monday April 24 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church.   The family will receive friends 3:00-4:00pm, Sunday April 23rd at Memorial Park South Funeral Home, Flowery Branch, GA.
