Mr. C.J. Collins, age 76, of Dahlonega, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023. He was born in Lumpkin County on June 15, 1946, to the late Claud and Edith Martin Collins.
C.J. helped build Mountain View Baptist Church in Dahlonega, where he loved attending and singing in the choir. He had a deep love for carpentry work and was a licensed electrician and plumber. C.J. worked with his father for 40+ years and built many houses. He traveled to all the 48 lower states on his motorcycle and, in his later years, loved camping; however, no matter where he went, he always made it a point to get home for Sunday church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Larry Bennett, C.S. Gaddis, and Ray Rider; nephews Jackie Bennett and Bobby Bennett.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Lynn Collins of Dahlonega; daughter and son-in-law Angie and Gary Fortner of Dahlonega; step-children Sharon Martin of Dahlonega and Mark Maney (Jessica Dowdle) of Dahlonega; sisters Belvia Jean Bennett of Clayton and Allene Gaddis of Dahlonega; grandchildren Collin Edwards (Mary Kathryn), Kaitlin Edwards (Tristen Smith), Cassie Edwards (Joseph Moon), Emma Martin, Lily Martin, Kaylen Maney, Kenlie Maney, Kortney Maney, and Maya Dowdle; great-grandchildren Aurora Smith, PiperKate Smith, Raylyn Moon, and Hershel Moon.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Mountain View Baptist Church, 41 Mountain View Church Road, Dahlonega, GA 30533. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell, the Rev. Phil Martin, and the Rev. Mason Caine will officiate. Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Darren Sams officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
