Rondal Lee Barnes

Rondal Lee Barnes, age 81, of Cleveland, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.

Mr. Barnes was born on February 22, 1942, in Union County, Georgia, to the late Ralph and Jessie Abernathy Barnes.  In addition to his parents, Rondal was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Mildred Barnes; brother, Donald Barnes; son, Jerry Trigg; granddaughter, Jessica Lambert; grandsons, Brian Rich and Mattew Mize.

Rondal was the owner of Barnes Greenhouse & Produce.  In the beginning of his farming career, he worked jobs other than farming; however, it was more out of necessity in order to raise his five children.  At a very early age, he started tending his father’s farm.  In 1966, Rondal purchased approximately 59 acres and started his farming career.  In the early 1970s he raised cattle, pigs, and produce, but grew tired of the cattle and pigs and continued to grow produce.  In approximately 1987, he and his wife, Mildred, built their first greenhouse.  Over the next several years their business boomed.  He grew all kinds of flowering plants, as well as vegetable plants, while still growing the best produce money could buy.  He farmed on a much smaller scale during the later years of his life.  Rondal served on the White County Farmer’s Exchange and the Hall County Farmers Market Boards at different times during his farming career.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Mary Trigg; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda Smith and Russell Wise, Janie and Gary Lambert, Nancy and John Cagle; daughter-in-law, Donna Trigg; brothers, Roy Barnes and Troy Barnes; brother and sister-in-law, Darmas and Joyce Barnes; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Jimmy Mitchell; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elaine and Tony Cantrell; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as special friends Ron Cagle and Larry Sutton.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 26, 2023, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home.  The Rev. Gary Heffner will officiate.  Interment will follow in Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
