Barbara Ellen Wilkerson

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Barbara Ellen Wilkerson, age, 83, of Jefferson, Georgia who entered rest Sunday September 10, 2023. Mrs. Wilkerson was born in Atlanta, Georgia the daughter to the late Stanley Seaborn Howle and Mary Lewis Lockridge Howle. In addition to her parents, she is preceded by two brothers, Stanley Howle and Joseph Howle.

Mrs. Wilkerson graduated from Roosevelt High School Class of 1958, Atlanta, GA, studied nursing at Georgia State University, receiving her RN degree. Worked as a Biological Lab Technician at the CDC, former RN at St. Mary’s Hospice House, former registered nurse at Bine Pines VA Hospital and Atlanta VA Hospital and a Pediactric Nurse at Scottish Rite. Recieved a Certificate of Retirement after twenty-one years with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Mrs. Wilkerson was baptized twice, once in 1975 at Rehobath Baptist Church, Tucker, GA and in the Jordan River in 1996. She is a member of Jackson County Baptist Church, Jefferson, loved reading her bible and different biographies and loved to travel.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Garmon (Mike) of Jefferson, GA. Two sons, Robert F. Cox Jr. of Grayson, GA and Jason Rancke (Kristin) of St. Petersburg, FL. Five grandchildren, Robet F. “Trey” Cox III of Flowery Branch, Ga, Ashley Garmon of Commerce, GA, Amy Garmon of Jefferson, GA, Ryan Rancke and Landon Rancke of St. Petersburg, FL. Two nieces, Crystal Nuss and Andrea Lovern and one nephew, Tim Howle.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday September 13, 2023 at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jack Lawson officiating. Burial with follow at Evans Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12 noon until time of service at 2 P.M. at Evans Funeral Home.
