Gertrude Waters Helton, age 83, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on December 6, 1939, in Lumpkin County, to the late Jim Waters and Jessie Eaton Waters.
Gertrude loved gardening and quilting, and she loved to get out and go any time she had a chance.
In addition to her parents, Gertrude is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Roy Verlen Helton; brother, Leon Waters; sister, Avery Davidson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Margie Helton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois and Wesley Cantrell; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Leroy Parks; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Reba and Bert Thomas.
Her family was important to Gertrude. Her survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Joel Turner; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Tyler and Kayla Turner; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Lauren and Tomo Oshimura; great grandson, William Blake Turner; sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Bill Etris; special niece, Donna Campbell; and numerous other special nieces and nephews and extended family. Each and every one had a special place in her heart.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, in the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Rev. Phillip Robinson will officiate. Interment will follow at Damascus Baptist Church in Dahlonega.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, and from 12 Noon until the time of service on Wednesday, September 27.
