Opal Walker Sharp

Opal Walker Sharp, of Cleveland, Georgia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, following a long battle with dementia.

Mrs. Sharp was born on May 6, 1928, in Alamance County, North Carolina, to the late Hubert Newton and Curvy Holland Walker.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Jean Yves James Sharp, Cleveland; son-in-law, Wally Weller; sisters, Rochelle Williams, and Gladys Koch; brother, Lawrence Walker, all of North Carolina.

Opal was well known for her gardening and floral arranging talents, which earned her numerous ribbons at the Greensboro, NC fair.  She will also be remembered for her baking skills – especially her German Chocolate cake, Pecan Tassies, and homemade biscuits with sausage gravy.  Opal was a woman of great faith.  Even through her years of illness, she always prayed and sang hymns.  She was a charter member of Lawndale Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and an active member of the WMU.

Opal is survived by her three children, Gail Weller, John H. Massey (Lou Ann), and Pat Pruitt (Dean), all of Georgia.  She is also survived by two grandsons who were “the apples of her eyes,” Greg Weller (Kati) and Brad Pruitt (Lacey); four great-grandchildren, Grady Weller, Rhett Weller, Hannah Pruitt, and Austin Pruitt; she is also survived by her sister, Margaret Smith (Bob) and brother, Earl Walker (Shirley), of North Carolina; as well as nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are scheduled for 4:00 P.M. Friday, October 6, 2023, at Yonah View Memorial Gardens.  The Rev. Dennis Turner will officiate.
