Doris Porter Jones

Doris Porter Jones, aged 81, passed away on October 4, 2023. She was born on June 17, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Leonard and Margaret Porter.

Doris was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was an active and well-known volunteer in the Gainesville community and at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Roswell.

Throughout her life, Doris touched the lives of countless individuals. Doris grew up in Tryon, NC and later graduated from The Women’s College in Greensboro where she became a Medical Technologist. While training at Emory University Hospital, she met the love of her life, her husband Dr. Charles Jones.

Doris will be deeply missed by her husband of 58 loving years, Charles; daughters, Susan Gowder and Leigh Nicholson; grandchildren, Brian (Meghan), Matthew, Ansley, Warren and Grant; great-granddaughter, Dylann; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Jones, sister Margaret Toburen, brother Leo Porter and son-in-law, Barry Gowder. 

A memorial service will be held on October 20 at 3:00 at St David’s Episcopal Church, 1015 Old Roswell Rd, Roswell, GA 30076.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. David’s Episcopal Church or your favorite charity in memory of Doris.

Doris’s departure leaves a void in our hearts, but her legacy will forever be cherished.
