Gaines A. Westmoreland

Gaines A. Westmoreland, Jr., 66, of Statham, GA, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023. The funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 2 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Pastor Steve Pritchett will officiate. Interment will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 12 – 2 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.

 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gaines Alvin Westmoreland, Jr., a beloved son, devoted husband, doting father, adoring grandfather, and proud great-grandfather, who departed this world and left a lasting mark on the lives of all who knew him, and his legacy will be forever cherished.  

Gaines was preceded in death by his father, Gaines A. Westmoreland, Sr.  He is survived by his wife, Shawn Westmoreland of Statham; mother, Lola Shuford of Williamson, GA; brother, Gregory Westmoreland (Cindy) of Duluth; uncle Anthony Westmoreland (Nancy) of Hoschton; children, Jessica McConnell of Monroe, Gaines A. Westmoreland, III (Rachel) of Acworth, Shane Westmoreland (Nikki) of Loganville, Ashley Westmoreland of Hoschton, Jamey Wyrick of Cumming, Misty Tribur of Flowery Branch, and Andrea Tribur of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Sam McConnell, Sabrina Gibbs, Dustin McConnell, Dalton McConnell, Gaines A. Westmoreland, IV, Garrett Westmoreland, and Owen Westmoreland; several great grandchildren.

Gaines was born in Atlanta, GA and was a lifelong resident of the metro Atlanta area. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and worked as a technician for Hewlett Packard. Gaines was a man of many passions and unwavering devotion. As a Christ follower, his faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his every action and filling his heart with compassion and love. Known for his dependability, Gaines was a pillar of support for his family and friends. His commitment to his loved ones was unwavering, and he was always there to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.

Gaines was an avid gardener, gifted woodworker, and model train enthusiast, which brought him solace and joy. His two green thumbs were legendary among friends and family, and his garden was a testament to his patience and dedication. He enjoyed taking furniture requests from his family and created beautiful pieces that were unique to each person’s needs.  These pieces will continue to grace the homes and hearts of his family for years to come. 

Gaines shared his musical talents by playing the guitar and singing in a worship band, using his gifts to uplift and inspire others during their spiritual journeys. His music touched the souls of those who gathered to worship alongside him.

One of Gaines' greatest joys was the annual tradition of hunting for the perfect Christmas tree in North Carolina. He delighted in bringing the spirit of the season to his family, creating cherished memories that will forever be treasured.

As we say our farewells to this remarkable man, let us remember his passion, his faith, and his enduring love for family and friends. May his spirit continue to inspire us to live our lives with purpose and devotion, just as he did.
