Mary Ellen Mathis, 81, of Dawsonville passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023 at her residence.
Born October 5, 1942 in Monroe, GA to the late Mell and Doris Byrd, she had lived in Dawson County for the past 32 years having moved from Mableton. Along with her husband, they owned and operated Action Taxi. She enjoyed shopping, travel, good food, and was very devoted to her family. Also preceding her in death were her daughter, Debra Lynn Lancaster; son, Christopher Ronald Lancaster; and brother, Mell Wayne Byrd, Jr.
Surviving are her husband of 32 years, Carson Mathis, Dawsonville; sons and daughters in law, Chuck and Erica Lancaster, Nashville, TN, Don and Stacy Adams, Sylva, NC; stepchildren, Melanie and Jonas Alfredsson, Flowery Branch, Ranier and Elizabeth Mathis, Flowery Branch; grandchildren, Jack Adams, Brandon Lancaster, Nichole Summitt, D. J. Summitt; 7 great grandchildren; sister and brother in law, Gail and Chubby Sheriff, Dawsonville.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 11 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Malachi Sheriff, Rev. Austin Houston and Don Adams will officiate. Interment services will follow in the Patterson Cemetery in McCaysville, GA at 2 o’clock.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
