Betty L. Buice

Obituary Date: Monday, December 25, 2023

Our hearts are deeply saddened by the passing of our loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Betty L. Buice aka “Gummy”, age 96, of Buford, GA,  who went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday December 25, 2023 after a long and blessed life.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, James Thurlow Buice (J.T.) aka Papa B;

grandson, Darryl Gower; sons-in-law, Harry Blankenship, Ed Martin, and Dieter Meth; parents, Ezra and

Delphia Pugh: brothers, Ezra Pugh Jr, Paul Everest Pugh; sisters Vivian Thornton, Katherine Lavelle, Clara Vining and Edna Puckett.

Mrs. Buice is survived by her daughters, Janet Martin, Gail Blankenship, Patti (Michael) Waycaster, Debbie (Greg) Reece; grandchildren, Terry Gower, Jeff (Diane Brown) Blankenship, Chris (Mindy) Blankenship, Michelle Whitt, Chad (Dara) Waycaster, Craig (Jana) Waycaster, Bradley Puckett, Vanessa (Klint) Ingle;  step grandchildren, Abby (Chris) Jessup, Melissa (Ken) Atherton Jr., Amy (Donnie) Healy, Ryan (Joanie) Martin; granddaughter-in-law Jackie Blankenship; 31 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Willie Pugh; loyal friends and neighbors, Jim Damico and Amy Benton; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Betty was born on September 19, 1927, in Buford, Ga. She attended Vance Crossroads School in Buford. Betty was employed by Sears and Roebuck and the Lumite Plant; however, her passion was co-owning Buice’s Superette with her husband J.T. from 1968 until 1986. Betty loved running the store, and she loved all of her customers and friends that she met along the way.  After the sale of the store in 1986, Betty and JT became members of Unicoi Spring Camp Resort and Coast to Coast, where they traveled with their friends and family camping across the country with their 5th wheel camper. They loved to travel and share their many adventures when returning home.

Betty accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, Buford GA where she was the oldest member until her passing. Betty loved the Lord with all her heart and took pleasure in sharing her testimony with others. As a Christian mother she raised her children to love God too. She loved singing praises from an early age and was in a family gospel quartet. Later in life, she joined The Silvertones Choir at First Baptist Church of Buford. Up until the last few years, she would join her Bojangles Breakfast Club, aka Bo-buddies during the week for breakfast. Even though her health did not always allow her to attend, she always thought of her friends. She also enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her flowers. Of all her accomplishments and adventures, she would tell you that her family is her greatest.

Her Funeral Service is December 31st, 2023, at 3:00pm in the Chapel at Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Bennett and Pastor Wayne Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to funeral service. A link for Live Stream of service will be available on the Flanigan Funeral Home Web-site. Interment immediately following at Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
