Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. Gerald Raymond McCown, age 81, of Jefferson, Georgia, who passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Mr. McCown was born in Anderson, South Carolina, a son to the late Raymond and the late Alma Shirley McCown Blakeney. Mr. McCown received his bachelor’s degree from Furman University and was the Maintenance Superintendent at the Athens Clarke County Housing Authority. In addition to his parents, Mr. McCown was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Graham McCown.
Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer McCown of Commerce, son, Graham McCown of Jefferson, grandson, Alex McCown of Commerce and brother John McCown and his wife Vicki of Lexington, South Carolina also survives.
In accordance with Mr. McCown’s wishes, his remains were cremated and a private memorial service will be held by his family on a later date.
