Edith Mae Slater

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Edith Mae Slater, age 67, of Jefferson, Georgia who entered rest Wednesday January 17, 2024. Mrs. Slater was born in Commerce, Georgia the daughter to the late James and Ruth Elrod Slater. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Whisnant and a sister, Cherry Stiwinter.

Mrs. Slater worked as a clerk at Center Grocery and Parr’s Food Store for many years. She was a member of Tyrus Baptist Church but most of all loved her boys and her grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Bo Whisnant (Tammy) of Statham, GA and Skeeter Whisnant (Laura) of Jefferson, GA. Two grandchildren, Ladonna Thomas (James) of Statham, GA and Tiffany Bryant (Joshua) of Statham, GA. One great grandchild on the way, Lainey Bryant. Three sisters, Diane McIntyre of Athens, GA, Brenda Getter of Nicholson, GA and Barbara Morgan of Colbert, GA. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday January 20, 2024 at Tyrus Baptist Church with Pastor Bo Whisnant and Pastor Wes King officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12 Noon until time of service at Tyrus Baptist Church 2616 Commerce Road Jefferson, GA 30549.

In accordance with Mrs. Slater’s wishes, she will be cremated after her services.
