James Leon Kimbro

On January 19, 2024, at the age of 91, our beloved daddy/poppa, James Leon Kimbro, went home to be with the Lord. He was a blessing to all who knew him. His love of life didn’t end with his death, as loved ones will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. His strong faith, selflessness, and positive attitude will continue to live on through the lives of those he touched.

He was a 1949 graduate of Buford High School, attended Georgia State University, and began working at Life of Georgia Insurance Company in 1951. In 1952, he was called to duty during the Korean War where he served in the B504th Military Police Battalion. During his time of service, he received several medals: Korean Service Bronze Star Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

In August of 1955, he married the love of his life, Gladys, and went on to have two daughters, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. His children and grandchildren were his joy, and he demonstrated his unconditional love for them each and every day.

His love for the Lord was evident in the way he lived his life. For many years he was an active member of Buford First United Methodist Church, and later he became a deacon and served at Buford First Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Gladys Allen Kimbro; mother, Mae Kimbro; father, Price Kimbro; brother, Gene Kimbro; and sister, Ruby Mathis.

He is lovingly remembered by: daughters, Sherri Vining, Linda Chalacoff (Gary); grandchildren: Nicole Nichols, Taylor Nichols (Chris Rajek), Jacob Chalacoff (Angel Dooley), and Makayla Chalacoff; great-grandchildren: Brylee Bailey, Nolan Chalacoff, and Renn Rajek; sister, Wilma Smith.

Those who were blessed to know him will forever be inspired by his unconditional love for others.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm on Sunday, January 21, 2024. A celebration of life service (with visitation before, starting at 11:00) will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 1:00 pm. (Flanigan Funeral Home – flaniganfuneralhome.com)
