Richard "Ricky" Nixon, Jr.

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. Walter Richard “Ricky” Nixon Jr., age 58, of Athens, South Jackson Community, who passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Mr. Nixon was born in Athens, Georgia, a son to Mrs. Evangeline “Van” Martin Nixon of Athens, and the late Walter Richard “Dicky” Nixon Sr. Mr. Nixon owned and operated Nixon Towing and owned a race car and loved going to local dirt tracks in the area to watch when he was not racing. Ricky loved his family, farm and his dogs, where he loved to be outside working in the garden. In addition to his father, Ricky was preceded in death by his nephew, Jordan Lee.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Brown Nixon of Athens; daughter, Amy Nixon of Athens; mother, Evangeline “Van” Martin Nixon of Athens; sister, Cindy Lee of Jefferson; niece, Cassidy Lee and nephew, Brandon Lee both of Jefferson.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Ken Brewer, Mr. Mark Byrd and Mr. Jimmy Parham officiating. The burial will follow in the Evans Memory Gardens with David Archer, Ralph Garrett, Danny Bale, Chris Motes, Vince Carnes, Steve Pearson, Gene Nixon and Lewis Roberts honored to serve as pallbearers.

The visitation will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024 from 6:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Evans Funeral Home.
