Mary Ann Barnwell

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mary Ann Johnston Barnwell, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on February 6, 2024.

She was born in Jefferson, Georgia on March 4, 1946 to loving parents, Louis and Mary Lorena Reynolds Johnston. She graduated from Jefferson High School, Brenau University with her Bachelor’s degree, and the University of Georgia with a Masters in Education. She was a school librarian and served as a caregiver in her later years.

Mary Ann will be remembered for her strong faith and love of Jesus. As a teenager, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a tent revival and was baptized at her home church, First Baptist Church of Jefferson. She was a faithful member of The Church on the Hill Jefferson. She had a servant heart and faithfully loved to serve at church in Preschool, Awana, and Good News Club. She loved her family and loved to be with them. She loved the color blue and was known for wearing her many hats.

She is proceeded in death by her parents and a brother, James Johnston.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Marie & Chad Robinson, and her grandson, Josiah Robinson, Flowery Branch, GA.

Gentlemen honored as pallbearers will be Will Aldred, Matt Allen, Jonathan Coleman, Thomas Mapes, Hopewell Mukono, Kevin Reagin, and Pastor Matthew Vandegriff.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 9, 2024 at The Church on the Hill Jefferson 101 Gum Springs Church Road Jefferson with Pastor Chad Robinson officiating with interment to follow at the Pendergrass Baptist Church cemetery with Dr. Jeff Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Evans Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that gifts be given to The Church on the Hill Mary Ann Barnwell Memorial Fund to be used in the kids and students ministry of Church on the Hill.
