Annette Westerman Carlisle

Obituary Date: Saturday, February 10, 2024

Annette Westerman Carlisle, 98, of Gainesville, Georgia, departed this earth on Saturday, February 10, 2024.

She was born to Sophia Laurene (Reinhart) Westerman and John Philip Westerman I on August 14, 1925.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 64 years William Laurence Carlisle, Sr., brothers John Philip Westerman II (Charmaine), Wayne P. Westerman, Charles Earl Westerman (Dottie), sister, Marylee Westerman Bredenberg (Richard), and sister-in-law Rosemary Siebern.

Survivors are her children William Laurence Carlisle, Jr. (Julie), Ronald Forrest Carlisle (Sherri), and Patricia Louise Carlisle, grandchildren Brooke Elizabeth Carlisle and William Christopher Carlisle, and cousin Sandra Sue Coleman. She also has nieces and nephews who continue on and have had a special place in her heart.

After high school, Annette acquired her beautician’s license and opened a beauty shop, which enabled her to work her way through college.  She earned her Bachelor of Home Economics degree from the University of Kentucky and later achieved her Masters Degree from the University of Georgia.  For 29 years of Annette’s career, she worked as a food service director for public school systems in Kentucky and Georgia.  She was the first food service director for the Hall County School System.  Annette was granted a Life Membership in the Georgia Food Service Association in 1993, served one year as its president, and was honored with the Ann C. Smith Hall of Fame Award for 1992-1993.  She authored two cookbooks: Masterpieces from Our Kitchen and Food Makes the World Go Around.

As a member of First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, Annette participated in the Prime Time Singers’ choir, her Circle group, Wonderful Works, and volunteer time in the church office.  Throughout her life, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, reading, the occasional adventure of a trip, and especially time with family.

The family will be receiving visitors at Memorial Park Riverside on Monday, February 19 from 4:00-7:00 PM. A celebration of life service will take place Tuesday, February 20 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Gainesville, Georgia.
