Mary June Robertson Woodard, age 94, of Gainesville, Georgia, peacefully passed away on February 14, 2024.
June loved her family immensely and is survived by her daughter Ellen Woodard Carey (Greg); son Robert Eldon Woodard (Linda); son Gordon Lee Woodard (Grace); and son David Keith Woodard (Patricia). June was an artist, gardener, musician, and a Registered Nurse who dearly loved her fourteen grandchildren (Tyler, Agatha, Zachary, Ben, Daniel, Rebecca, Jim, Hannah, Max, David, Gregory, Sam, Marianne, and Levi) and eleven great-grandchildren (Juliet, Henry, June, Maggie Jane, Owen, Jimmy, Clarke, Connor, Charlie, Hope and Thomas). In addition to her immediate family, June is survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many beloved neighbors and friends. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Henry Gordon Woodard, parents Silas Overman Robertson and Mary Hortense Brown Robertson, her sister Bobbie Ann Holst, and grand-daughter Rebecca Carey.
June was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and grew up in Augusta, GA. She attended Vanderbilt University and graduated with her Nursing degree in 1951. Between her vocation, helping her husband at the veterinary clinic and raising four children, she was always able to help a soul in need of comfort, care, and compassion.
June moved around quite a bit in her life. After a wedding in Nashville, Tennessee, the couple moved to Athens, Georgia so her husband could complete his doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine. They opened and operated private veterinary practices in Dickson, TN and Paris, TN. Eventually, they moved to North Carolina, Memphis, TN, and finally to Stone Mountain, GA. June earned a degree in Graphic Arts later in life and worked several years as a Media Specialist at Clayton State College (now University). Her life-long love of plants led her to become a Master Gardener. In retirement, Henry and June moved to Habersham County, GA to start Doubletree Christmas Tree Farm. After 20 years, their second retirement was to Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville, GA. June was always active in the church, and she was very fond of her time with the Presbyterian Women organization.
Through music, sewing, artwork, photography, gardening and cooking, June always made the world a better place than she found it. When most people would see only one rainbow, her artist’s eye allowed her to observe a double rainbow. Musically, she loved to sing, played piano, flute, lap dulcimer and hammered dulcimer.

The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Little & Davenport Funeral Home, 355 Dawsonville Highway SW, Gainesville, Georgia. The interment will be at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lanier Village Estates Samaritan Fund - 4000 Village View Drive - Gainesville, GA 30506.
