Monna Jean (Brown) Maddox

Obituary Date: Thursday, February 22, 2024

Monna Jean (Brown) Maddox of Gainesville, Georgia was born March 10, 1947 and went to be with Jesus on February 22, 2024. Monna was born in Gainesville, Georgia to the late John and Imogene Brown.

She grew up in the New Holland Mill Village. She attended New Holland Elementary School, East Hall High School and Lanier Technical College. She was a lifelong Georgia Bulldog Fan! Monna was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Donna Gibson, daughter, Tina Maddox and son-in-law, Thomas Cornelson (West Point).

She is survived by her husband, Steve Maddox, whom she met, working a part-time job selling gas for his boat. She is also survived by her daughter, Stephanie “Sissy” whose fondest memories include introducing her to her first ice cream float, learning the proper way to do the twist and watching “Christmas Story” over and over and then over again at Christmas time. Monna also leaves behind her grandchildren, Matthew and Holly, great granddaughter, Autumn: nephew, Jason, Nealy (wife) and their five daughters. Monna had a lifelong passion for helping others. She began her career with the Hall County Probation Office, then moved on to becoming a School Bus Driver in the Hall County School System and then finally becoming a Para Pro Teacher, also with the Hall County School System at Riverbend Elementary and East Hall Middle Schools. Children were definitely Monna’s passion! She was everyone’s “Basketball Mom”, cheering them on from the sidelines where she was keeping score and being the team bus driver.

One of Monna’s greatest joys in life is when she learned she would become a “NeeNee” when Thomas and Sissy found out they were expecting. She poured her heart into her grandchildren and her devotion had no boundaries. A lifelong sports fan, her enthusiasm for them when she got to cheer Matthew on in baseball and Holly in basketball could be most described as boisterous and confrontational. If any call was ever made against them, she made sure the umpire / referee knew her opinion. But of course, this was done in a loving way that only NeeNee could do.

Monna was loved by everyone she met and in lieu of flowers the family would request any donations be made to the Georgia Alzheimer’s Foundation in Monna’s name. https://www.gaalz.org/donatetoalzheimersdisease P.O. Box 20226, St. Simons Island, GA 31522.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, February 26, 2024 at the funeral home. Celebration of life service will follow at 7:00 pm Monday at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel.
