Donald Gene Cain

Obituary Date: Tuesday, March 19, 2024

Mr. Donald Gene Cain, 85, of Gainesville, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2024 at Cool Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Chris York, Rev. Ricky Stone and Rev. Darin Cain will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

 

Born on December 2, 1938 in Gainesville, he was the son of the late Maynard Alvin and Bertie Mae Satterfield Cain. Mr. Cain worked for The Georgia Department of Transportation, Southeastern Highway Contracting Company, and retired from J. A. Long. After retirement he worked with Johnny Martin Paving.

 

He was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and taught Adult Sunday School.

Mr. Cain enjoyed spending time with his family, going to watch his grandkids and great-grandkids play sports, going to Georgia Tech games and avid car lover.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cain was preceded in death by his infant son, Derek Alan Cain; his loving first wife of 39 years, Jo Ann Weems Cain; brother and sister in law, Lee and Marie (Lawson) Cain; brother, Rex Cain; sister and brother in law, Inez and Grover Brock; brother in law, Arvin Gearin and brother in law, Benny Hawkins.

 

Mr. Cain is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sandra Abernathy Cain of Gainesville; son and daughter in law, Darin and Peggy Cain of Gainesville; daughter and son in law, Penny and Bobby McGee of Gainesville; grandsons, Derek (Jessica) Cain, Drew (Katelyn) Cain, DJ (Emily) Kerns; great grandchildren, Dawson Cain, Riley Cain, Denver Cain, Mason Cain, Duncan Cain, Tate Cain; step sons, Rhett (Amy) Tyner, Nick (Beth) Tyner; step grandchildren, Bree Tyner, Trey Tyner, Callie Tyner, Cullen Tyner, Mandi (Kevin) Lora; step great grandchildren, Quinn Lora, Cooper Lora; sister, Patsy Gearin; sister in law, Jean (Happy) Hawkins and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family and other loving relatives.
