Esther Scarborough Cowan

Esther Scarborough Cowan, age 100, of Buford, GA passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024.  She was preceded in death by her husband, George S. Cowan, Sr.; son, George Smith Cowan, Jr.; granddaughter, Christine Phelps.  Mrs. Cowan is survived by her daughter, Mary (Paul) McElroy of Suwanee, GA; five grandchildren, Catherine McElroy (Tom Abrahamson), Anna (Christopher) Bollinger, Jeremy (Begona) Cowan, Malaika Cowan (Tony Vinson), Brian (Allison) Phelps; three great grandchildren, David Cowan, Zach Phelps, Kyle Phelps; brother, Henry Eugene Scarborough of Auburn, ­­­­AL; daughter-in-law, Mary Hogan of Yapsilanti, MI. She was born on December 29, 1923 in Milan, GA.  Mrs. Cowan was a graduate of Telfair County High School and attended the University of Georgia.  She was a retired Daycare Director and had worked for Cross Keys Baptist Church in Macon, GA.  Mrs. Cowan was also a homemaker.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Buford, GA, a member of the Abundant Life Fellowship and a member of the Upper Room Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Vineville Baptist Church in Macon, GA. Mrs. Cowan loved playing bridge at the George Pierce Park in Suwanee and was a member of Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 38 where her husband was a founding member.  Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Coates officiating.  Interment will be on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 12:00 noon at the Macon Memorial Park located in Macon, GA.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
