Billy Dwayne Pirkle, age 75, of Lula, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.
Billy was born August 19, 1948 in Charlestown, Rhode Island. He was the son of the late, Thomas Pirkle and Illa (Boney) Pirkle. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Pirkle; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Mildred Wilson.
Billy served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was awarded several medals and letter of outstanding leadership. He was also a Purple Heart recipient. He suffered many years with the effects of Agent Orange. Prior to his body deteriorating, in his younger years, he was always helping people out. Whether it was helping them work on cars, working on things in his friends’ homes, cutting grass or anything he could do to help.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43.5 years, Annette (Wilson) Pirkle; sons, Andy Pirkle, Bobby (Amber) Pirkle; daughters, Ashley Cato, Billie Jo (Doug) Fitzhenry, Brandi Pirkle (Joe Moore); brothers, Donald Pirkle, Alvin Pirkle, Dennis Pirkle, and Michael Pirkle; grandsons, Barry Moon, Avery Fitzhenry, Isaiah Holder, T.J. Pirkle, Jaylin Cato, Henry Cato, Jeremiah Bailey, and Joey Cato; granddaughters, Clara Norris, Makayla Holder, Emilee Pirkle, Norah Holder, Makenna Pirkle, Abby Bailey, and Millie Pirkle.
We would like to thank our granddaughter, Makayla Holder for taking such good care of her Papa during his chemo treatments; the Nurses and Doctors of Northeast Georgia Health Systems; Dr. Tanna of Northside Oncology and the VA for taking such good care of him all these years.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 5, 2024 at the funeral home with interment to follow at Alta Vista Cemetery with military honors.
He loved his children and grandchildren and his fur baby Kobe.
