Jerry Wayne Richards, 69, of Buford, GA passed away at his home Wednesday, May 8, 2024. A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 11 AM at Yonah Memorial Gardens, Demorest, GA. The family request, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Guiding Light Hospice at 157 Burke St. # 110, Stockbridge, GA 30281 or a hospice of your choice.
Jerry was preceded in death by his dad and mom, Owen and Margaret Richards and sister, Ruth Ann Coombs. Jerry is survived by his husband, James Guess, Buford, GA; nieces and nephews, Debbie Hamilton, Lisa Richards, Tammy Burgess, James Richards, Michele Jordan, Anthony Richards, Douglas Richards, and Darlene Gilroy; cousin, Frances Abernephy.
Jerry was born in La Plata, Maryland and was raised by his uncle and aunt, Clinton and Margaret Richards. From La Plata, he moved and grew up in Accokeek, MD and Alexandria, VA. He worked at Disney World when it first opened in 1972, in the Main Street Bakery. Jerry was a computer programmer for the US Census Bureau until he retired. After he retired, he moved to Altamonte Springs, FL. He then moved to Buford, GA and lived there until his passing. Jerry was of the Methodist Faith. His passion was baking, and he had a flair for decorating special event cakes with delicious icing.
